Volunteers gathered for an hour to walk the beach and parking lot at the Delaware Seashore State Park, assisting in the collection of unwanted trash left behind. In total, they had more than 150 volunteers spend a Monday morning picking up trash that had been left behind.

Since 2022, Big Chill Beach Club has organized a total of 26 beach clean-ups, bringing together community volunteers of all ages to protect and preserve the Delaware coastline. At each clean-up volunteers have collected buckets full of trash and debris, including plastic, aluminum cans, food wrappers, cigarette butts, fishing lines and more. Each of the items left behind poses a serious threat to local ecosystems, representatives said.

“As a beachfront restaurant, our mission extends beyond providing a great dining experience,” said Emily Burns, marketing coordinator at Big Chill Beach Club. “We also want to emphasize the importance of caring for our local environment. These clean-up events truly highlight the difference we can make as a community. I want to thank all the volunteers who came out to do their part in picking up trash and protecting our coastline.

“These clean-ups truly help create a spirit of teamwork and environmental awareness for the community. The events not only contribute to a cleaner beach and park but also educate the community about the importance of keeping the state park clean.”

Big Chill Beach Club is dedicated to continuing its efforts in helping the environment and community engagement. Plans for future clean-up events and educational initiatives are already in the works for next summer.
