The South Bethany Town Council has allocated $50,000 in funding for the removal of algae blooms from the town’s canals. The proposed cleanup project would take place in April and May of 2023 by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC). However, if DNREC is unable to complete the work, then the back-up plan is to negotiate a contract with Solitude Lake Management. The Town's Public Works Department would also provide resources to assist with the project. The algae blooms would be relocated to a state park such as the Salt Pond or Fresh Pond near the Fred Hudson Road, subject to DNREC approval.
